Set among the countryside near Hudson, Ohio, Kate O’Hara’s home is a study in quiet elegance – a retreat designed for restoration. As the CEO and Creative Director of O’Hara Interiors, Kate’s world moves fast, with studios spanning multiple states and projects unfolding across the country. But here, in the Midwest, her home tells a slower story: one centered on intentional living and considered design. 

When it came time to remodel the primary bathroom, the OHI team approached it with the same principles that guide our work with clients: timelessness, functionality, and refined ease. With Lead Designer Tatum Madden at the helm, the space was reimagined to reflect not just how the room should look, but how it should feel and how it should live. At the heart of the transformation is a curated collection of GROHE fixtures, chosen for the brand’s technical excellence and quiet beauty.

A Bathroom Remodel Rooted in Ritual

Every home tells a story, and for those who split their time across multiple properties, creating continuity between spaces becomes part of that narrative. For Kate, the goal wasn’t to make a statement, but to create a bathroom that felt restorative – a place to begin and end the day with calm and clarity. 

The existing layout lacked that rhythm. It felt compartmentalized and disconnected, with limited storage and no central focus. Tatum began by refining the footprint to improve flow and emphasize symmetry. A generously proportioned shower now anchors the space, framed by soft natural finishes and bathed in layered light. 

This reimagined layout created the perfect opportunity to introduce GROHE’s SmartActive Shower System, a centerpiece that brings both precision and luxury to the everyday.

Why GROHE

GROHE’s SmartActive system sets the tone: sleek, modern, and deeply intuitive. It allows for push-and-turn control over water temperature and flow, with a minimalist profile that suits the understated elegance of the room. But the design story doesn’t stop there. 

Sink faucets and a tub filler from GROHE SPA’s Atrio collection (known for its refined proportions and timeless appeal) were selected for their ability to blend classic lines with a contemporary edge. The matte finish adds depth without overwhelming the palette, and each piece was chosen with intention: beautiful, functional, and quietly present. 

Supporting details – a towel ring, robe hooks, and toilet lever, also from GROHE – carry that through-line of cohesion and craftsmanship. Every element feels as though it belongs, without calling undue attention to itself. It’s a seamless expression of OHI’s design ethos: elevated, intuitive, and deeply personal.

Layer the Light

Thoughtful lighting is a signature of every O’Hara Interiors project. In this bathroom remodel, natural light spills through oversized windows, softened by the earthy textures of the walls and floors. To complement that glow, Tatum layered in subtle accent lighting. These warm sconces flank the vanity mirrors, and provide gentle overhead illumination. 

Together, these elements build an ambiance that shifts with the time of day: energizing in the morning, calming by night. Paired with GROHE’s streamlined functionality, the experience becomes a ritual – simple, sensory, and wholly yours.

Storage That Works in the Background

When you design for multiple homes, you understand the importance of intuitive storage. This bathroom was no exception. Hidden compartments within the custom vanity keep clutter tucked away, while an integrated shower niche houses essentials within arm’s reach – carefully framed to highlight, not compete with, GROHE’s fixtures. 

This is the kind of luxury that often goes unseen: the smooth rhythm of drawers that close softly, the ease of knowing everything has its place. It’s less about show, and more about the feeling of a space that simply works.
