Oh My Styled Life
This Texas Lake Home Blends Mid-Century Modern with Classic Style
Just north of Dallas, this Texas lake house is the perfect weekend retreat—designed for both style and ease. The homeowners wanted a space that felt welcoming and practical, a reflection of their warm, hospitable lifestyle. Working with Shadden Custom Homes, O’Hara Interiors blended mid-century modern and classic design, creating a home that is effortlessly inviting and in tune with its surroundings.

Honoring the Architecture

This Texas lake home began with mid-century modern architectural plans, but the homeowners felt that pure mid-century modern would need to be modified to honor their true intentions for the home’s style. They gravitated toward a classic aesthetic and hoped to balance the exterior’s mid-century modern essence with an interior that reflected these nuances. The design team expertly integrated mid-century influences, such as the light well in the kitchen and muted, organic tones, while incorporating materials and textures in the furnishings and rugs that leaned more classic.
A Thoughtful Approach to Materials & Finishes

The Moss Lake Home is defined by its use of color and texture. For example, in the kitchen, the design team chose Architectural Surfaces‘ white quartz countertops that pair beautifully with a white marble backsplash, whose hints of purple and green pay homage to the surrounding nature. Those earthy colors are continued in the lower cabinets, painted in Sherwin Williams’ Basil.
One of the most distinctive features of the dining room bar is the brick-surround shelving. Instead of opting for floating shelves, the designers wrapped the bar in the same brick used in the great room, creating a cohesive, statement-making element. And in the pearlescent pink primary bathroom, rather than using wallpaper, a textured 3D tile was chosen to add depth and visual interest.

A Statement-Making Front Door

One of the most visually striking features of this Texas Lake Home is the custom front door. The unique style deviates from some traditional designs with a three-quarter panel with divided lines. Initially considering yellow, the final color selection—Sherwin Williams’ Jasper Stone in a satin finish—was inspired by the ottomans in the great room, creating a harmonious yet unexpected entrance.

A Personal Escape
Set in a secluded location that feels like a private retreat, this property is still close enough to concert venues and other cultural activities in Oklahoma, allowing the homeowners to enjoy both relaxation and entertainment.
From the rare marble selections to the thoughtful reconfiguration of spaces, every aspect of this home tells a story. And at its core, it’s a space where memories will be made, friendships will be celebrated, and the beauty of the lake will always be just a glance away.
