The O’Hara Method: Fall Home Essentials That Work Year-Round

Transitioning Into Fall Home Decor And Beyond

With early morning temps lowering to a crisp and brisk atmosphere, making it perfect for – you know it – our favorite cup of warm coffee. It’s surprising to think that Fall is almost here! And we’re here to help with some Fall home essentials to transition you into and through the season.

Embodying all the cozy comforts of a laid-back yet eventful day spent with family and friends, we’re not talking seasonal decor (although, who are we to judge?). Read below for the three fall home essentials that embody what we love most about the season and can take you through the whole year, 365 days.

1. Cozy Paint Colors that Manifest Through the Year

Inviting warmth and comfort never felt more effortless than a simple color change. Inspired by the vibrant tones often seen throughout the fall season, below are our top three color suggestions that bring a little extra coziness into your home.

Benjamin Moore Cheating Heart 1617

Think crisp midnight sky while you’re toasting marshmallows by the fire pit. It’s an all-encompassing, dark color, giving a sense of expanse with blue undertones. Warm finishes of brass and oil-rubbed bronze make this color feel extra special and fall-inspired.

Benjamin Moore, Boreal Green AF-480

It’s a rich green that speaks of liveliness year-round. It’s an evergreen that feels fitting and sets the tone for vibrant Fall reds, oranges, and yellows. Any finish looks fabulous with this earthy color, but pair with warm woods, and you have yourself a welcome invitation.

Farrow and Ball, Hague Blue No. 30

Our forever-favorite and a blue that seems to go with just about anything; you cannot go wrong with Farrow and Ball’s Hague Blue. Whether a small amount or your whole kitchen, it’s a cool enticement that adds depth and dimension to any space it encounters. Keep your room warm and welcome with bronze finishes and orange accents.

2. THE Kitchen Essentials You Should Be Intentional About This Fall

Between wrangling all the kids at the yearly Halloween costume party and hosting family for Thanksgiving festivities, there’s a lot your kitchen needs to withstand. That’s why it’s important to think about durability and functionality. So, where to even start?

Stools & Runners

It’s necessary to select items for durability, and these stools with a nautical-style rope seat can withstand daily heavy use. The rich walnut finish compliments the medium oak wood tones throughout the kitchen. A patterned vintage Turkish runner in yellow-gold offers a low pile and pulls in seasonal colors – easily incorporating gilded luxury for the following season.

Sleek silhouettes and warm woods are an instantaneous welcome, and this kitchen is ready for hosting with these upholstered counter stools and a heavy-duty runner. This modern farmhouse highlights all the comforts of farmhouse living with plush stools and colorful accents, but streamlined iron and leather finishes and a vintage rug pattern add a personal and modern touch that cannot be beaten.

3. Must-Have Luxurious Spaces As The Weather Cools

Whether it’s a utility or lounge space, these rooms may feel extra, but let us tell you – they are anything but that. Building or remodeling your home can cause added stress, but we’re here to help by taking that off your plate. Below are our favorite must-have luxurious spaces to enjoy with cooler weather and year-round. Consider including these in your new home build or remodel:

Mudroom with Utility

You can never go wrong with a discrete entrance to your home offering room to organize your clutter. What do you think of this locker-style storage? We left cubbies open on the bottom for easy cleanup of dirty shoes (plus, we wanted to see more of that gorgeous tile!), and drawers are for smaller items like hats and gloves.

Covered Porch

Enjoy the outdoor scenery with or without the cool temps. Consider a three or four-season furnished covered porch with an outdoor fireplace. More opportunities to lounge and enjoy company? Yes, please!

Multi-Use Laundry

It triples as a laundry, mudroom, and doggie hang-out, but a dramatic ceiling-high backsplash makes it a space we all could be happy to spend a copious amount of time. A great reminder that your utility space can feel just as luxurious as other spots in your home!

The Ingredients That Make An Effortless Home

Everything about your home should feel easy, comfortable, and beautiful. And hey, we like to be realistic. It’s not always practical to change the design or decor of your home seasonally. Why not embrace what you love most and incorporate these Fall home essentials year-round? Whether it’s through color, furnishings, or usable spaces… tell us, what do you choose?

Love the suggested colors. The darker ones probably wouldn’t work in the deep south even in the fall. It is better to keep it light especially through the hot fall which stretches into December and sometimes January. But I love the blue in the kitchens. Thanks for sharing. I love this website. BT
