A New Kind of Holiday Season: Smaller Celebrations at Home

Coordinated Decor for a Festive Holiday Season

It’s that time of year again! But it’s also a year when a lot of us are rethinking how we spend our holiday season. How do we make the season special with fewer, smaller gatherings? How do we keep our homes functioning for working and school from home, while still making room for decorations?

With so many of our lives being centered around our home this year, we’re excited to decorate and celebrate the holidays a little earlier and longer than normal. We know, we know…what about Thanksgiving?! We say, bring it on! We’re excited to show you 4 ways to enjoy and coordinate all your holiday decor to make the best of this winter season at home.

#1 Keep Decor Neutral & Soft

With so many stressors around the holiday season, we’re calling 2020 the year for  a gentle approach to holiday trappings. With cozy cable knit blankets, luxurious silk rug, slippers, and soft bedding, this bedroom is an inviting and restful space at the end of a long day. Keeping decor neutral also helps create an easy transition from one holiday to the next! We adore dried floral arrangements with warm colors for November and pulling in soft greens (such as cypress garland or minimal wreaths) and delicate vintage gold bells for December into January.

#2 Embrace the Family China

Embrace your festive and heirloom dishes to make the season feel extra special. Even though you might not spend as much time with extended family this year, you can still bring family nostalgia into the season! Whether it’s setting the table for few or many, we love how these settings can dress up any dining space. At any point during your festivities, we love the idea of utilizing a buffet as a coffee or tea station…easy to enjoy after dinner, or really any time of the day!

#3 Find Moments of Joy

Find spots throughout your home where, no matter where you look, you experience a little pocket of joy! This can be a focal point in your room or a space that might otherwise stand clear throughout the year. We adore creating a focal point around a fireplace mantle, pulling in our favorite indoor plants for those in-between spaces, and welcoming guests in an entry space with statement-making greens and accessories.

#4 Ditch the Tree for Space-Saving Wreaths

Trees are a lot of work and they take up a lot of space. This year, we’re thinking about ditching our trees and focusing on decorations that won’t clutter rooms we’re using for WFH and family activities. If you’re a family that enjoys a Christmas or holiday tree, this might be a year to consider a different path, and we think wreaths are an amazing choice! You can buy a bunch of wreaths and embellish them with ribbons and ornaments (we love Trader Joe’s, or if you’re local…Tonkadale for wreaths, cut greens & garland!). Or you can make it a family activity and DYI your wreaths like we did above!
